Here are instructions to make a tiny book, which can be used as a mini sketchbook or filled with stories, poems, jokes, or anything you like. It’s very simple and quick to make, and suitable for all ages. Children could make a picture book to share with a younger sibling, or make a hobby book filled with facts and illustrations. The possibilities are endless!
You will need:
A sheet of A4 paper for the pages
A sheet of A4 paper, cut in half lengthways, for the cover
Scissors
Fold the A4 paper in half widthways, and open it out, then fold it in half lengthways and open it out.
Fold one of the short sides in to the centre crease and fold out again. Repeat with the other short side, and you’ve divided the page into eight sections.
Cut along the middle crease from one of the shorter edges along 3 sections. There are the trouser legs!
Now fold each trouser leg into a concertina.
Fold the top concertina trouser leg behind the bottom one. You have finished the pages of your book.
You can stand it up like this.
Take the paper for the cover, and start to fold it in half widthways, but stop about 1cm from the edge when you make the fold.
Do the same from the other side. This makes the spine part of the cover.
Fold each side towards the centre, stopping about 1cm from the spine fold each time.
You have made 2 flaps on the inside of the cover.
Now the pages of your trousers book will briefly turn into a bird and fly into the cover, its wings (the first and last pages) tucking themselves under each flap.
Your trousers book is ready to use. What will you fill it with?
